Project overview
RUMSpotWatch started as a proposal for the Toyota Mobility Challenge. It aims to improve parking management and the daily experience of students who drive to campus.
The problem we saw on campus, what we want to change, and how the system works.
RUMSpotWatch started as a proposal for the Toyota Mobility Challenge. It aims to improve parking management and the daily experience of students who drive to campus.
Limited spaces and poor use of them lead to frustration, lost time and traffic. At peak hours students often spend more than 15 minutes looking for a spot and arrive late to class.
We are building a parking system that shows live availability, cuts search time and makes better use of each lot. The prototype launches at the ADEM parking lot.
Cameras detect which spots are taken in real time, and the mobile app shows live counts of free spots. Usage history helps forecast busy hours.
